Our former neighbors from Kansas were in Portland for a visit and we took them to Wahclella Falls for a hike.

This is my first ever camping experience. We were at Jones Creek campground at the Wilson River in the Coastal Mountains.

We were looking for shorter hikes that we can take people on who don’t want to do a strenuous workout… I think both of these will work for that.

The Wilson River is in the Coast Range and is great for fishing. We walked along the Wilson River Trail, which follows the river and then climbs into heavy forest high above the river.

This was our first elevation hike… the trailhead is at 3,450 elevation and we climbed about another 1,000 feet. At the top is a small sub-alpine lake and an option to go higher to the top of a small mountain.

Right after parking in a large lot right off the old Columbia River Highway, you can see the falls and a small bridge. The water runs all the way from the top of the mountain from springs that come directly out of the ground at the top.

Our first hike in Oregon, we went on the 10 waterfalls hike at Silver Falls State Park, but we shortened it a bit and hiked for about 5 miles.
