On a trip to Sisters, Oregon, we drove through Bend and over into the Three Sisters Wilderness and Mount Bachelor area to see the Central Cascades.

We were on a long drive from Eugene to Sisters and stopped along the way to view waterfalls along the McKenzie River.

The hike in Oregon’s Coastal Range is along Elk Creek and then begins to climb and eventually switchback and end at a junction with the Elk Mountain Trail.

Opal Creek

Opal Creek is about a 2 hour drive from Portland and is one of the last areas of large old growth forest. We were a bit early for hiking here though… the snow cover kept us on the main road.
