HIKES BY AREA: Mount Hood Area

This is a relatively easy/moderate hike next to the Salmon River through a forest with old-growth evergreens to a canyon viewpoint. Woodland wildflowers bloom here in the spring, but it had been raining heavily so they were all droopy. Distance for this out-and-back hike is about 7 miles with 1,000 ft. gain.

Wahtum Lake is located west of Hood River, between Mount Hood and the Columbia River Gorge. There are many trails that cross through this area, including Eagle Creek, Herman Creek and the PCT.

The Salmon River begins on Mount Hood, and winds through the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness before it joins the Sandy River. This hike goes through old-growth forest next to the river, climbing to a viewpoint about 600 feet above it.
