This is my first ever camping experience. We were at Jones Creek campground at the Wilson River in the Coastal Mountains. Our campsite was large and private… we were in a heavily treed area with lots of ferns and moss. We did a short hike along the Wilson River and the bridge that goes to the Tillamook Forestry Center really scared my little dog. Overnight, it got a bit cold, so we wore our sweats in our sleeping bags. It was nice and cozy in our small two person tent. In the morning, there were a lot of bird sounds and when I unzipped the tent door, I laid for awhile enjoying the view of the forest.
We got up early and went to the coast for a drive through the Three Capes Scenic Tour… Cape Meares, Cape Lookout and Cape Kiwanda. All were great. Cape Meares has viewpoints at the top of high rocky cliffs with seabirds at the large rock islands in the ocean. There is a lighthouse at the end of a short paved walk. We didn’t see much at Cape Lookout since the road doesn’t go down the cape. There is a hike, however, and it is on my list of things to do. Cape Lookout also has a large campground and we went to see what it looks like. We reserved a spot for September… I can hardly wait. Camping by the beach sounds great. The beach at Pacific City is a big, wide beach with waves rolling in over and over.
