Neahkahnie Mountain

Distance: 4.2 miles roundtrip
Elevation Gain: 1,300 ft.
Location: North Oregon Coast

Located right on the coast, Neahhaknie Mountain is north of Manzanita, Oregon, just south of Oswald West State Park. This hike is from the northern trailhead on 101 highway. Initially beginning in the forest, the trail leaves the forest and gently climbs the slope of the mountain through a tunnel-like path through shrubbery with views of the ocean to the west, and of Cape Falcon and Smuggler’s Cove.  The trail enters the forest again, switchbacks several times and eventually leads to openings with ocean views to the south. Right after the trail turns to the left in this area, there is a rocky scramble that will take you to the top, but if you prefer an easier way up, continue on the trail until it makes a sharp turn to the left, then look for a section with tree roots providing steps up the slope. At the rocky summit, take in the views looking south and down towards Manzanita, Nehalem Bay, and on a clear day, all the way to Cape Lookout.
