The Salmon River begins on Mount Hood, and winds through the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness before it joins the Sandy River. This hike goes through old-growth forest next to the river, climbing to a viewpoint about 600 feet above it. Wildflowers were in bloom, including avalanche lilies, trillium and one of my favorites, lady slipper orchids.
